Often mistaken for a Great Kiskadee puppy, the Bananaquit measures between 10 and 11 centimeters. Its plumage is yellow at the chest and belly, while its back and wings are brownish. The head is white at the throat and dark at the top, with a thin white line just above the eyes. It is a very active bird, jumping around the branches of trees and bushes all day in search of food, singing all day. It feeds on nectar, fruits and insects and adapts to different types of environment. It is a very quarrelsome bird with hummingbirds and other Bananaquits. It can be easily seen on the Praia Vermelha Campus, mainly in trees with flowers.
