Saffron Finch
A bird especially known in the interior of the country, the canary-of-land has returned to be common in large cities. It measures about 13 centimeters and can always be seen in small flocks, scattered on the grass. While the male is completely yellowish, with blackish olive tones on the wings and back, the female has lighter plumage in the frontal region, alternating between white and yellow. It feeds primarily on seeds that it picks up on the ground, managing to crush the food with its beak. It is easily seen in the grassy regions of the Campus of Praia Vermelha, always in small flocks.
