This species of parakeet is very common in coastal areas of the city of Rio de Janeiro, inhabiting palm trees and coconut palms, where it usually makes its nests. It is the only species of parakeet / parrot that builds its own nest. It measures between 28 and 33 centimeters in length and lives in large flocks. It has a predominantly green color, with the exception of the belly, chest and face, which are white, in addition to the tail feathers, which are blue. It has a very varied diet, which consists of fruits, vegetables, seeds, flowers and buds. They can be seen and heard easily in the trees next to the Campus of Praia Vermelha, facing Avenida Pasteur, where they are singing throughout the day.
