Order:   Passeriformes

Family:   Thraupidae

Species:   Sporophila caerulescens

IOC English name:  Double-collared Seedeater

This bird is very appreciated for its beauty and, mainly, for its singing. Measuring about 12 centimeters, the male's plumage is white on the front and dark on the wings and back, with a characteristic white and black collar, in addition to a white "mustache" next to the beak. The female, in turn, is all brown, with darker tones on the back. Its beautiful corner makes it a victim of cages and animal trafficking. It feeds on grains, using its strong beak to break seeds. He usually lives in flocks throughout the year, with the exception of the reproductive period, in which he lives with couples. It can be seen in the grassy areas of the Praia Vermelha Campus.
