Order:   Passeriformes

Family:   Tyrannidae

Species:   Hirundinea ferruginea

IOC English name:  Cliff Flycatcher

Despite being common in urban environments, this bird is rarely seen by passersby, as it is always on top of rocks and buildings. It measures between 16 and 18 centimeters and its plumage is completely brown, with darker tones on the wings. He is an accomplished hunter, using his flying skills to catch insects. He performs impressive aerial maneuvers, always jumping from the same point to look for insects, with breathtaking aerial acrobatics, before returning to his watch post. It is usually heard singing in the late afternoon. It can be seen at the top of the buildings around the Campus of Praia Vermelha.
