One of the "maritacas" that populate the skies of Rio de Janeiro, the red-fronted jandaia measures about 30 centimeters in length. Its plumage is predominantly green, with red accents on the wings, belly and forehead, yellow feathers on the top of the head and blue feathers on the wings and tail. In the city of Rio de Janeiro, hybrids between the red-fronted jandaia and the real jandaia are very common, and this hybrid is commonly known as "jandaia-carioca". Vocalizes a lot, being spotted normally in couples. It feeds on seeds, nuts and fruits. It can be seen flying over the Campus of Praia Vermelha.
