Better known as "Loro", it is a bird very familiar to Brazilians, mainly because it is widely used as a pet. Few people know that wild parrots still fly over the city of Rio de Janeiro. The species measures between 35 and 37 centimeters and is very similar to curica, with some differences: the parrots are more robust, have a more bluish face and have red marks on their wings, instead of the orange. In addition, their vocalization is very distinct, with a "CROU" well marked in each corner. Parrots are extremely intelligent and can imitate the human voice. Like curicas, they are monogamous and live with the same partner throughout their lives, in addition to being known for their longevity, reaching up to 80 years of age. Parrots feed on fruits and seeds. Couples can be seen flying over the Campus of Praia Vermelha and eating fruit from the trees. They have already been spotted looking for a nesting site within the campus.
