House Sparrow
A very common and well-known bird in large cities, the sparrow is a bird originally from Europe, but which has adapted easily to our continent. It measures between 13 and 18 centimeters in length. The plumage of the male and female is brownish, and the male has a black spot at the height of the beak, which goes down to his throat. It is usually seen near human dwellings, mainly in places with tiles and other cavities, which he uses as a dormitory. Their food consists of seeds, insects and human food scraps. It is a bird that has been losing space in large cities, supposedly due to the difficulty in finding places for nesting. They can be easily seen at the Praia Vermelha Campus, especially in the area facing Avenida Pasteur. There are records of nests of the species within the Campus.
