This bird can easily be confused with other species, such as the Piratic Flycatcher and the Streaked Flycatcher. Measuring about 18 centimeters, it has plumage all streaked with dark gray, with brownish colors on the wings and tail. It has a small beak and uses it to hunt flying insects, which make up most of its diet, along with small fruits. It is a migratory bird and usually inhabits more open green areas. It can occasionally be seen on the Praia Vermelha Campus.
