This beautiful bird usually inhabits forest environments, but also frequents parks and gardens. Measuring about 13 centimeters, the male has strong blue plumage, with black spots on the back, throat, tail, wings and at eye level. The female is all green, with only her face in a weaker bluish tone. It is almost always seen by couples, feeding on nectar, insects and fruit. It can be seen occasionally on the Campus of Praia Vermelha, mainly in the trees with flowers and fruits.
