Species:
Tangara palmarum
IOC English name:
Palm Tanager
One of the most common birds in urban environments, the Palm Tanager measures between 17 and 18 centimeters. Its plumage is totally green, with darker tones on the wings and tail. It is always seen in pairs or in flocks by the trees. Its name comes from the fact that it builds nests usually on top of coconut and palm trees, where it can be easily camouflaged. Its high pitch is easily identified, even because it tends to sing all day. It feeds on fruits and insects. It can be easily seen throughout the Campus of Praia Vermelha.
