IOC English name:
Tropical Kingbird
One of the most common birds in urban environments, the Tropical Kingbird measures between 18 and 24 centimeters. It has the front part of the body in yellow and the wings and tail are brown in color. The head is gray, with a slight black line at eye level. He is an excellent hunter, choosing a wire, antenna or thin tree branch as a perch, from where he makes aerial attacks to hunt for insects. It is especially active at the beginning of the day and at dusk. Despite being a daytime bird, it usually stays awake in the early evening, taking advantage of the light from electric poles to hunt unsuspecting insects. It also feeds on small fruits. It can be easily seen throughout the Campus of Praia Vermelha.
