Order:   Passeriformes

Family:   Tyrannidae

Species:   Machetornis rixosa

IOC English name:  Cattle Tyrant

Easily confused with the Tropical Kingbird, this species usually follows large mammals, "riding" animals to look for ticks and other parasites. Measures 18 centimeters in length. While the front of its body is yellow, its wings and tail are brown in color. Its head is clearer, with a black stripe at eye level, having an orange plume that is rarely exposed. Like the Rufous Hornero, it can be seen all day walking on the grass while looking for insects, which make up its food. They can be seen on the football pitch of the Campus of Praia Vermelha.
